Organization of Sri Lanka’s participation at Incentive Business Travel & Meetings Expo (IBTM), China 28th & 29th August 2019
Sri Lanka Convention Bureau (SLCB) in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Embassy in Beijing, China organized Sri Lanka’s participation at the Incentive Business Travel & Meetings Expo (IBTM) China for the 7th consecutive year was held 28th & 29th August 2019 at the China National Convention Centre (CNCC) in Beijing, China. A total of eight local industry participants and SriLankan Airlines partnered with SLCB for the event. Youlanka Travels (Pvt) Ltd, May Flowers (Pvt) Ltd, Classic Sri Lanka, Walkers Tours, Golden Isle (Pvt) Ltd, Esna Holidays (Pvt) Ltd & SriLankan Airlines marked their presence at the event.
The main objective of organizing the event was to promote Sri Lanka as a preferred MICE Destination in Asia. SLCB has identified, China as a potential market for meetings industry specially in the Incentive travel segment.
There were 74 international exhibitors and 276 domestic exhibitors attended at the event. There were over 400 Hosted Buyers for two days of pre-arranged business meetings. Over 3,500 visitors attended the event. IBTM China was a vital platform for MICE suppliers and Buyers to meet and conduct business negotiations & networking.
During the Exhibition, a total of 233 pre-arranged business meetings were scheduled for the participants. The event provided an opportunity to local industry members to meet Chinese and other international MICE buyers, agents, conference & event organizers and the incentive houses.
In line with the SLCB branding initiatives, SLCB was the Official Bag Sponsor of IBTM China 2019. A total of 4,000 bags were printed and distributed among the invited buyers and the trade visitors during the two days. The sponsorship of the IBTM China official bag was an exclusive opportunity available for only one sponsor. The SLCB name, logo and tagline “Meet In Sri Lanka” were printed on the bag alongside the IBTM China logo & name. The sponsorship provided greater impact on the name of Sri Lanka as a destination for MICE tourism and brand awareness.
Coincide with the event, SLCB in collaboration with the IBTM organizers, organized a special business networking Session on Day 1 of the exhibition and which was provided an extra avenue to meet a separate set of 30 corporate and agency buyers during the event.
During the knowledge sessions, SLCB and SriLanka made Destination Presentations and highlighted MICE offerings and capabilities.
A post Familiarization Tour was organized for 10 Chinese MICE agents as a follow up to the IBTM China.
